Lake festivities around the Tegernsee
A festival of lights at the height of summer
It takes more than a few words to properly describe what the "Tegernsee Seefeste" actually are. We’ll try to be as brief as possible: By day, rays of sunlight set the lake to sparkling, and at night, its surface turns into a mirror that reflects the brilliant colours of the fireworks going off high above.
When the lakeside festivals are going on, it’s the best time of the year!
UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS AT THE LAKE
The Seefeste are held when the summer is at its peak. These lakeside festivities kick off in Rottach-Egern, where the entire length of Seestrasse turns into a pedestrian zone lined with small stands, shops, and bars. By the time the party arrives in the town of Tegernsee, the street that encircles Rathausplatz is filled with tables and benches, and local restaurateurs have already set up stalls where they try to outdo one another with culinary delicacies. Bad Wiessee's Seefest is also a wonderful experience for young and old, offering numerous attractions the whole family can enjoy.
In the afterglow of the setting sun, hundreds of vessels row, sail, and motor their way across the lake in the evening quiet. The atmosphere is one-of-a-kind, and it produces moments that simply can’t be experienced anywhere else.
Another essential element of the lakeside festivals is a packed entertainment programme that includes everything from alpine horns and brass and marching bands to traditional whip-cracking.
A BRILLIANT FIREWORKS SHOW
Every Seefest culminates in a magnificent display of fireworks. When there are hundreds of boats out on the lake just waiting to be lit up by the brilliant colours, it's always quite a scene. The question of which local community had the best show is a matter of heated debate every year. Of course, your two cents only count if you saw all three!
SHUTTLE BUSES AND SHIPS
New arrangements have been put in place to bring visitors to the Seefeste and back again free of charge. On the days when the festivities are scheduled, the southern water shuttle and the circular train lines operated by the RVO can be used at no cost as from 5:00 pm. Additional ships depart at 11:00 pm and midnight, and there’s an additional bus at 12:10 am (these are free of charge, as well). In another first, there will now be attended bicycle parking areas at the school in Rottach-Egern and the Medius fitness centre in Tegernsee (5:00 pm to midnight).
